What is your current strategy to keep busy and continue surviving given the current economic conditions? Has your philosophy on business changed?

Keep your eyes on the road and your hands on the wheel.

How do you approach risk-taking in this environment?

I think at this point, almost any situation is a risk to some extent. A lot more thought and research has to go into any situation one deals with financially. Scared money doesn’t make money.

What sort of lasting effect will the current situation have on your business/direction down the road?

I’ll let you know…Lots of folks try to sound impervious to the current economic state. Shit’s scary.

What sort of positives can you draw from this economic downturn if anything?

There is an old adage that says:

“ Necessity is the mother of invention.”

Hopefully, we will be seeing more differing styles and individual brand identities. Also, people/consumers start to explore/develop their own personal styles as opposed to proscribing to the mass market.

Have you been more keen on certain types of advertisement or more willing to open up?

Open Up? I would not say more keen, but definitely forced to be more creative about the avenues we use. Lots of word of mouth and viral marketing. Teaming up with companies in other industries to get the more exposure with less cost.

Do you feel that there’s a need to create a more commercial style to be successful rather than being innovative and pushing the envelope?

Uniqlo, Gap, and Old Navy have that locked down. The market unfortunately, is super saturated right now, there is room for alternative product again.

The issue becomes how to manufacture and get it to retail cost effectively. Interestingly, what was “alternative” and pushing the envelope has become commercial. Be on the lookout for some young upstarts to make a significant change in the near future. This usually happens in times of financial turmoil.

How has your manufacturing process changed? Are your products still created in the same areas as they were 12-18 months ago?

Unfortunately, we’ve had to find cheaper development. This compromises product quality but gets us in the competitive price range we need to be. Less development trips as well. In a strange way, it’s kind of cool in a challenging way. Makes you really challenge yourself more from a design process.

With many people stressing that through hard-times emerges new creativity and opportunity, how true is this?

Ultimately, when there is less money, people have to become more creative all the way around. I’d say it’s a very true statement.

For small start-up brands, do you have any suggestions given both saturation and economic factors breathing down their neck?

Think what is going to genuinely set you apart from the rest of the industry. Not some cheesy rehashed mission statement. Not your take on the same thing that everyone else is doing, but really spend time developing your own brand identity. If everyone else is looking at the same thing your product will stand out more. Don’t get caught up in being “the man” or the “it girl” … Focus on your craft, be creative in how you market yourself, work hard and your work will speak for itself.

Although a relatively general question, what has had the biggest impact on you from a business and personal perspective?

I’ve had to tighten up the belt. Be more mindful of biz and personal spending. What do we/I really NEED to be spending on ?

Any closing notes you’d like to finish off with?

Stock up on ramen kids … It’s going to be a rough road.

Now. Lets step this conversation up a notch. Have you seen this before? If you're from New York then its probably something you've seen a million times. Louis Vuitton steps it up by covering the building with Takashi Murakami's popular monogram design. Crazy marketing. The funny thing is is that its probably just a big piece of plastic or fiberglass around the building. Its the fact that its a LOUIS VUITTON design that gives this so much value. A good deal considering she bought the line for $114 million back in 2003. Enyce may not be as "Cool" as it was before, but it will be interesting how he can resurrect and revamp this line. We all know Banksy as one of the best Stencil artists in the world. An artist that has captured street culture and its extensive audience. He has records of countless vandalized walls and hidden in mystery like a thief in the night. Banksy's most recent exhibit has wowed, boggled, and engrossed art lovers with an unusual and should I say an eccentric concept that only the man could think of. The exhibit is called "The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill". Here is what you will see inside the premises:

In 1997, before the visit of the pope to Rio de Janeiro, Captain Nascimento from BOPE (Special Police Operation Battalion) is assigned to eliminate the risks of the drug dealers in a dangerous slum nearby where the pope intends to be lodged. Captain Nascimento is trying to find a man to replace him because his wife is pregnant and he intends to quit the command and become a trainer of the new recruits. Meanwhile, the two idealistic friends Neto and Matias join the Military Police force expecting to become honest policemen and fight the criminals. However, they see only corruption, lack of competence and stupid bureaucracy in the Military Police, and after a serious incident in the Morro da Babilônia, they decide to join the BOPE. The lives of Capitain Nascimento, Neto and Matias are entwined along the next months, first in the tough training period and then in action against drug dealers. Nascimento believes that Neto could be his substitute, but his impulsive attitudes jeopardizes his choice. Later, the intelligent Matias seems to be the correct choice, but he needs to prove that he has heart.

Hey Hey readers! So I was doing my usual browsing of the net the other day and I came across something jaw dropping. I don't know about all of you but I love gadgets and new technology, and this is something out of this world! This is a private yacht owned by a billionaire and daym! this guy has got some major cheddar, no joke. Check it out.

This is A, a giga-yacht that looks like a cross between a First World War battlecruiser, a submarine, and a spaceship. The A is 387 foot long, with three pools, one master suite, six guest suites, and rooms for 42 staff. Or 42 trained evil Spectra ninjas. The scale of this thing is just mind-blowing, you just have to look closely at the side gate, which seems big enough to hold a dozen of torpedo boats.

To give you an idea of the carbon footprint this thing has, the fuel tank is so big that it costs $US1.4 million to fill up. It's owned by Russian billionaire Andrey Melnichenko, who got it built for about 150 million euros at the Blohm & Voss shipyard, Germany, following a Phillipe Starck design.

Here is an upcoming collection from Marc Jacobs for the Fall and Winter of 2008. I feel Marc Jacobs is a designer that dips his feet into the "Street-wear" scene and culture, his line is more of a high end fashion brand but many of the items can be paired with your favorite street-wear brands and shoes. You will see a lot of long coats and a wide ensemble of outerwear. Colors are subtly used. Greys and blacks is the focus for this upcoming line.

Saturday, September 13, The Shindig Organization featured Filthy Grommet in their street wear photo shoot. The Shoot was done in Valle Verde 5, in front of a hidden graffiti mural inside the village. Check it out.
